Newcastle United isn’t just a football club, it’s a collection of characters worthy of the silver screen. Forget the latest blockbusters; these Magpies channel some of the most legendary characters from cinema’s golden eras. Here’s our lighthearted casting call, matching the players and managers to timeless film icons based on their style, personality, and flair.
🦾 Dan Burn: The Terminator
Dan Burn is Newcastle’s Terminator, relentless, imposing, and seemingly unstoppable once he locks onto his target. Not the flashiest, but built to last and with an ironclad determination that terrifies attackers. Like Arnold’s cyborg, Burn is all about mission focus: defend at all costs. Hasta la vista, strikers.
🦸♂️ Fabian Schär: Captain America
Schär channels the classic virtues of Captain America, dependable, courageous, and a natural leader who inspires those around him. Steadfast and principled, he carries the defense like Cap carries the shield. Calm under fire, with a noble sense of duty, Fabian is Newcastle’s moral compass and battlefield commander.
🍸 Sandro Tonali: James Bond
Tonali’s slick, classy, and cool-as-ice, the James Bond of midfield. He moves with elegance, always seems two steps ahead, and delivers just the right amount of charm with a hint of mischief. Smooth on the ball and clever in his play, Tonali makes controlling the midfield look like an art form, shaken, not stirred.
🥊 Joelinton: Rocky Balboa
Joelinton is the quintessential Rocky Balboa. The underdog with a heart of gold who never quits, no matter the odds. Maybe not the most technically gifted, but his grit, work ethic, and dogged determination keep him fighting round after round. Fans love him for his heart, his hustle, and that classic never-back-down spirit.
🤠 Alexander Isak: Indiana Jones
Isak is Newcastle’s Indiana Jones, adventurous, daring, and capable of pulling off jaw-dropping moments when it counts. With a mixture of brains, skill, and a touch of swagger, he navigates defenders like Indy explores ancient temples, with fearless precision and just the right dash of flair. Expect the unexpected when Isak’s on the prowl.
🕵️♂️ Bruno Guimarães: Sherlock Holmes
Bruno Guimarães is like Sherlock Holmes. Brilliant, analytical, and always several moves ahead. His vision and reading of the game are uncanny, making him the ultimate strategist in midfield. When Bruno’s around, it’s like Newcastle have their very own detective, unraveling the opposition’s tactics and masterminding attacks with cool logic.
🇮🇹 Eddie Howe & Jason Tindall: Michael Corleone & Sonny Corleone (The Godfather)
Eddie Howe is Michael Corleone. Calm, calculating, and always thinking five moves ahead. Like Michael, Howe keeps his emotions in check, quietly masterminding tactics with precision and intelligence. His cool, strategic mind is the steady hand guiding Newcastle through the chaos of the football world as head of the family.
Jason Tindall, he’s Sonny Corleone. Fiery, loud, and fiercely passionate. Sonny wears his heart on his sleeve, charging headfirst into battles with raw aggression and intensity. His energy and determination fire up the squad and make sure no one ever doubts Newcastle’s fight.
Together, they’re the perfect duo. Eddie’s calm, tactical brilliance balanced by Steve’s unstoppable, passionate drive. Like the Corleones, they prove that brains and fire make for a legendary team.
🎬 And… Cut
From relentless cyborg defenders to suave secret agents, gritty underdogs, and genius detectives, Newcastle United’s squad feels like a walk through cinema history. So next time you watch the Magpies, imagine these legendary characters stepping out of the silver screen and onto the pitch and you’ll never look at football the same way again.
It would be great to hear any other suggestions from you all.
